The Aam Aadmi Party is planning to make the Delhi Metro and buses free for women.

If this scheme is implemented, it will be good news for the female students of Delhi University. A lot of Delhi University students have to travel long distances in order to reach their college. These long distances mean great expenditure on travelling.

AAP’s minister Kailash Gahlot has discussed the idea with DMRC and asked the DMRC to submit a proposal for the same.

According to one of the officials of DMRC, such a move will add pressure to the work of DMRC and imposing it will be a major challenge.

AAP had been claiming to reduce the Delhi Metro fares in the past. Earlier, claims of reducing fares by 25-30% were made. According to AAP the Delhi Metro is a necessity and not a luxury. Therefore, fares should be such that residents of Delhi are able to afford it.

The chances of implementation of such a scheme seem less. However, if the scheme is implemented, it will benefit the residents of Delhi.
