DU student turned Kidnapper

Even minor girls are not safe in India

On Sunday evening, Ghaziabad Police took under custody a 22 year old University of Delhi student for kidnapping a 50-year-old father along with his 17-year-old daughter furthermore he demanded ransom of Rs 1.3 crore. Police stated, the accused was arrested after they uncovered the three calls by the accused  which was received by the family members, asking them to spill out the sum required for the release of the father-daughter duo.

The suspect Avneet Singh Walia, lives with his family in multi-storey building in Vaishali’s sector 4. According to police sources Walia is a second year BCom studying in University of Delhi. He is friends with the girl, who is studying in class XII at a school in Indrapuram.

According to the police, Walia was well aware of the fact that the family was extremely religious and laid a booby trap by inviting them to attend puja prayer. He hoodwinked the family by inviting them to a flat in Vasundhra Sector-3, which was taken on rent that too days ago.

Both the father and daughter left their house at around 6.15 am on Sunday. As soon as they reached to the 4th storey they were astounded to found walia pointing out gun at them. The accused forced the father daughter duo to make ransom calls. And demanded the sum of 50 lakhs from his wife and his Mumbai-based sister. Three calls were made to his wife, his Mumbai-based sister and to a relative in Ranchi respectively. An amount of 50 lakh was demanded by two of them and 30 Lakhs were demanded by his relative who resides in Ranchi.

The family members contacted the victim and assured him that a token money of 5 lakh will be being given that the father and daughter won’t be harmed at all. The accused had a 32 calibre pistol along with cartridges. He also possessed some sleeping pills for the father daughter duo.
