- Scenario and protest by the students in the DU:
The students of Delhi University launched a protest against the construction of a high building in the North DU campus. The members of RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) marched towards the construction site. They formed a human chain to bring down the construction of the building.
They also raised their slogans of putting down the private residential building. This huge building resides almost in between the six girl’s hostels overlooking them. The students says that this building would invade into the privacy of the girls in the hostel. Moreover this building will hamper the environment of the college, as because this building is going to be a residential one. Many of the students said “we won’t be comfortable in the college campus for this residential building”. One of the student said “this building will also hamper the security of the students in the hostel and therefore must be stopped immediately”.
- Protests by teachers in DU:
Moreover, They stated that how they are ignored by the DU administration. They says that DU administration did not conducted any meeting or discussion with them before starting of the construction. Even they were not informed about the thing. On being asked, a faculty member of DU revealed that the land originally belonged to the Ministry of Defence and was acquired for public purpose by the state government for the construction of metro station by DMRC. But, the DMRC sold two-thirds of this land by granting lease to a private builder which ultimately resulted in a residential building in college area.
Academic council member and KMC professor Dr Rasal Singh said that this type of building construction will bulldoze the teaching and learning process in the university and therefore will impact negatively on the students. Supporting this protest march Dr Alok Ranjan Pandey, vice-president, Delhi University Teachers Association said that “the 39-storey building near the Delhi University Metro constructed, will not only be a threat to the privacy of the girl students staying in the girls hostels around the university, but will also increase the danger to the historical buildings adjacent to it”.
- DMRC’s claim:
DMRC claim that after the construction of the metro for the property development they leased out remaining land to a private organisation in 2008. DMRC also added that they would use the revenue acquired in the loan payback, passenger services and also in other operational requirement.
Moreover, they said that this matter is seen with positive views by the judicial authorities and all the approvals have been followed in this process. Even the Supreme Court did not grant any stay order on the matter. With all these positive views and supports DMRC do not see any kind of dispute in the issue.
But instead of these claims the students and teachers of DU declined to accept it. And further assured to continuing the protest unless and until the building construction is put to an end. Moreover, they are determined to bring more and more students in support of them and would unite together against the matter. They say that the issue is a serious one and each and every student should be aware of this so that this can be ended at its beginning otherwise other will also have to face the same thing in near future.
