In 2015, an incident flashed as headlines on almost all news channels where a DU student, Jasleen Kaur alleged that Sarvjeet Singh used sexual language and inappropriate gestures against her in Tilak Nagar, West Delhi.
Jasleen Kaur clicked pictures of Sarvjeet Singh sitting on his bike and uploaded the same on social media telling everyone her version of the incident. Also, she filed a police complaint against Sarvjeet Singh. A case was filed against Sarvjeet Singh under Sections 354A, 506 and 509 of IPC.
Sarvjeet Singh on the other hand alleged that he was stopped by Jasleen Kaur when he asked her to give way and then clicked pictures of him. He also alleged that Jasleen’s case was nothing but a publicity stunt as she was member of AAP and wanted to seek publicity.
The court also noticed that there were contradictions in Jasleen Kaur’s statements and she did not stick to one statement as she kept improvising her version of the incident. Also, there was no public witness to the case.
The Tis Hazari District Court has acquitted Sarvjeet Singh of all charges after 4 years. During this period Sarvjeet Singh lost his job and was hurt mentally. Also, his social life was adversely affected because of the false charges. Jasleen, on the other hand moved to Canada and earlier refused to show for court proceedings till she was warned that an arrest warrant will be issued against her if she does not show up.
