Students of the University of Delhi are in a fix. The construction of 39 storeys High Rise building has been a bone of contention between the students and the builder for a long time. The DMRC has allowed the private builder to build a high rise near Vishwa Vidyalaya metro station. Even the Delhi high court has to intervene on the matter and the municipal corporation backed the private builder.
The Delhi high court is also in favor of the construction as the builder has all the permissions and legal documents needed for the construction. The land on which the construction has been carried was under the Home Ministry of India and was earlier planned by the Government of India that the land would be used for construction of further augmentation of Metro station.
The students have tried every possible method to curtail the construction of the high rise. They have been to the High court but after their plea being rejected, they even wrote a letter the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi. The students are protesting against the construction giving the reference of the invasion of privacy for the girls residing around the area of construction of High Rise.
The girls’ hostel of North Campus of the University of Delhi is nearby the construction area thus many students of the Kirori Mal and the Miranda House are revolting in a huge number, the students are holding placards stating, save our home and they have even protested by making human towers and many more. The girls are really worried and are suspicious of the fact that the construction might bring crime and the incessant environment with it. The girls are anxious because earlier they were free to loiter inside the campus but now their movements would be restricted.
