Soon your Metro smart card could be used for multitasking. The days are not far when you would be able to use your Metro smart card for paying parking fees. This innovative move is planned keeping in view of the pilot project to remove the congestion on the busiest roads of Delhi such as Lajpat Nagar, Kamala Nagar and Krishna Nagar by the authorities of EPCA Environment Pollution ( Prevention and control) Authority. The EPCA has plans of linking the Metro Smart Card with parking lots of the aforementioned areas.
Sunita Narain, Member of EPCA stated that Linking of Metro with parking system could ensure a healthy culture where the same card is going to help the movement around the entire city. The suggestions have been given to the DMRC Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and it is up to them to look upon this suggestion.
On 30 September, the Supreme court of India has demanded report from the EPCA, civic bodies and the government of Delhi on the feasibility and success of introducing the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Tag), parking succour and information systems as well as last mile connectivity from parking spaces to commercial areas and spaces.
EPCA chairman Bhure Lal says, that this parking plan is going to start immediately, even the elaborate report on the working of parking management in three areas would have to be given to the apex court by December 30, 2019. One of the official of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation said the area for parking in Lajpat Nagar is all set. Whereas an official from East Corporation said that they are going to inaugurate the plan by October.
While the representative of the North Corporation said that they would not start working on the plan till the issue of Kamala Nagar is resolved.
