As the High court ruled out the petition by University of Delhi against the construction of a 36-storey Building right next to the Vishwavidalaya metro station.
The approval of construction by the High court is a highly contentious matter for DU. After the disapproval of the petition by high court, Delhi University is moving to Supreme court.
Delhi University is against the construction because according to it this will destruct the Master plan of Delhi 2021 and is going to keep on stake the safety of Students living around the premise in hostels.
When asked to a senior official : “The issue has been sorted , the builder has done all the formalities correctly and thus was offered the approval.” Therefore, the allegation by the University of Delhi is false as the construction company has abided all rules and regulations properly.
Delhi University officials claims that originally the land was bought by DMRC from defence ministry for Rs 42.4 crore that too for public purpose. But a part of this land was sold to a non-government builder for 218 crore. After being lost to the case in 2012 they again moved the petition in 2015.
Delhi University has also written to the PMO and the defence and home ministry about this sensitive matter. According to Delhi University this construction is going to hamper the privacy of the students living in the hostels such as Miranda House girls’ hostel, the central institute of Education, University hostel for women, Meghdoot hostel and girls hostel of social work.
An affidavit filed by the NGT and SC is of the view that this whole situation should be “decided per law”. The Delhi University official are strictly against this construction as this is going to affect the privacy and protection of students studying in these government colleges by private institutions.
