Delhi University Teacher Association (DUTA) called for an indefinite strike from last Wednesday. 4,500 ad hoc teachers’ salary for the month of November has not been received and according to them, they are being targeted for opposing Narendra Modi’s idea of higher education.
Ad hoc teachers’ work for four months and their service is renewed after a gap of one day but an advisory from the authorities of the university has allowed the appointment of Guest Faculty. There is no clarification in the letter regarding the ad hoc teachers’ so the DUPA ( Delhi University Principal association ) decided to put a hold to the appointment of these teachers until the authorizes provide a proper clarification regarding this.
Delhi Authorities published the letter on 28 August and they asked Universities to fill up the permanent vacancies and can appoint guest faculty till permanent faculty is appointed, if required, against the new vacancies arising the first time.
The letter didn’t have any consequences against the Principals.
As per ad hoc teachers, they are being targeted for opposing the new idea of Higher education. They said that they opposed various policies of higher education and protested against it because it only promotes commercialization and privatization and that is why they are being targeted by Vice-Chancellor.
DUTA feels that ad hoc teachers are already working here from the past 10-15 years and they deserve the renewal of their services and this should not have been applied to ad hoc teachers. They find this appointment of Guest teachers unacceptable and they are demanding for the renewal of services of ad hoc teachers or else they won’t end the strike. As a result, they will also boycott evaluation, Invigilation, and other official duties.
