Little did they know, the two auto rickshaw drivers waiting peacefully for their passengers that this was their last day of life. The unfortunate accident took place on GT Karnal road when a over speeding car collided with three standby auto rickshaws. The accused driver who rammed his car onto the vehicles was identified as Mohit age 23, a BA student pursuing his degree from the University of Delhi SOL School of Open Learning. As soon as police identified the suspect he was arrested on spot.
The victims were Sanjay Sareen (40) and Jaikishan Gupta (36), hit by Maruti SX4 car and were taken immediately to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, later they were shifted to the Lok Narayan Hospital where they were declared dead by the doctors. Another driver was also injured but was released after the treatment.
The incident took place at 1.52 AM when Mohit was heading back to his home after having dinner with his friends. When the incident took place he was accompanied with his five other friends, according to sources he lost his control and consequently rammed the standby autos. His medical examination is being conducted and the police is waiting for the reports. Mohit lives with his family in South west Delhi’s Palam area.
Jaikishan was a father of three and has been driving for the past 15 years, used to reside with his family in a rented accommodation nearby. His wife stated that they would donate his eyes to the needy. Whereas, according to Sanjay’s cousin, Sanjay was the sole bread earner of the family.
The cases of deaths by similar situations are reported in the Delhi regions and are increasing at an alarming rate, thus the efforts are being made by the administration to curb such incidents.
