The Admissions Committee of DU will meet today and might discuss on the implementation of the newly introduced 10% reservation for economically weaker sections of general category.

The new reservation system is to be introduced from the coming session. Even though this topic is not on the list of agendas for today’s meeting but sources claim otherwise.

The new law of 10% reservation for the economically weaker sections of general category was implemented by the HRD Ministry. On 9th January, the amendment of the constitution to provide 10% reservation to general category was approved by the Rajya Sabha.

The 10% reservation to poor students of general category is over and above the 50% reservation being offered to SC (Scheduled Castes), ST (Scheduled Tribes) and OBCs (Other Backward Classes).

Also, the number of seats in higher educational institutions and universities across India will be increased by 25% as a result of this decision.
