Ever since its proposal, the syllabi of four subjects – English, Political Science, History and Sociology of the University of Delhi has been “an apple of discord”.
Seeing the situation the varsity has decided to put the issue on the official websites of the respective subjects inviting advice from the teachers and students.
This issue has been debatable for as long as one month, the main complaint was reported by few teachers regarding the controversial elements in the syllabus and they were also agonized by the fact that teachers were not given prior involvement while drafting the syllabus.
The University of Delhi has a separate committee which looks after the drafting and editing of syllabus this committee is named as “The oversight committee”.
The oversight committee has suggested many changes in the syllabi, for instance, removal of the ‘Indian people’s Theatre Association’ (IPTA) from the English syllabus and many more. In the latest development, the oversight committee has sent letters to the four departments and has requested them to upload the syllabus on the websites to look for broad consolation and wider perspectives towards such issue and inclusion of students and teachers are a must because it is going to affect the overall academic growth.
The revised syllabus should be submitted by October 31 for approval.
National Democratic Teachers’ Front (NDTF) member was from starting against the syllabus but has welcomed this recent move. According to Rasal Singh: This is a very wise decision taken by the panel.
The indulgence of Teachers and student regarding this matter is the right approach towards the benefit both academically and practically.
Now it is the prerogative of the departments whether to seek modification or go with the earlier changes, this way everyone will get an equal share.
