If recalled, Ankiv Baisoya, who won the presidential post of Delhi University Students’ Union, was alleged of producing forge certificates and documents during admissions. Reportedly, the fake certificates were issued under the name of a university in Tamil Nadu.

At DU, principals are trained to hire a team of forensics to ensure the authenticity of documents and certificates submitted during admissions.

Due to the Baisoya case, DU has lost some of its reputation and thus such a recommendation has been made.

“We have received recommendation to make it mandatory for all colleges to hire forensic experts to verify mark sheets and certificates. The university had asked colleges to do the same last year as well, but only a few colleges followed through. The others cited lack of resources for not doing so,” a panel member said.

However, colleges like Ramjas, Dyal Singh and Kalindi colleges have after all recruited professional teams for the purpose.

On the other hand, a case similar to the Baisoya case was discovered in Ramjas back in 2012. The Ramjas principal commenting on the issue, said,”

“Every year we receive fake certificates. We encounter cases in which students who are residents of Delhi, submit caste or disability certificates issued by other states. We have had forensic experts since 2013.”

While other principals asked for more time to be given to colleges to verify documents. Manoj Singh, Aryabhatta College principal, says, “Hiring forensic experts to require money and that can only be generated through students’ admission fee.

It’s better than the university allows us to keep the original certificates and mark sheets of the candidates rather than making it mandatory to return them within two days of admission. It will make a lot of difference.”
