The Delhi Assembly passed a bill on setting up a Delhi Sports University in which graduation, post-graduation, and doctorate degree will be offered in cricket, football, and hockey among other sports.
In October Delhi Cabinet passed the Delhi Sports University Bill, 201 which will be India’s first Sports University and it will aim to provide world-class infrastructure and produce the finest sportspersons and coaches.
Chief Minister feels that sports are a unique arena where nation capabilities are assessed. In the last 70 years, India only won 28 Medals whereas China won 70 medals in Rio Olympics, 2016. He feels that smaller countries are winning more medals which is difficult to accept. He is there will be a shortcoming the system and sportspersons do not get enough support from the Government.
He added that 2nd December 2019 will be a historic day for India as the DSU bill was passed on this day. Ninety acres of land has been identified and the university will be constructed in Mundka. The Vice-Chancellor of this University will be an experienced sportsperson.
