The Delhi University Teacher’s Association has demanded shutting down Delhi University on 25th October after an emergency meeting on 22nd October. The shutdown is a protest against the proposal which proposes setting up of 9 new centres which will have the authority to decide the fee structure, admission criteria and appointment criteria on their own. These centres will provide courses in the following domains –
- Public Health
- Climate change and sustainability
- Governance and Public Policy
- Skill enhancement, etc.
According to the teachers of Delhi University, this move will cause the privatization of the entire system. At present the DU administration exercises complete control over the fees structure, admission criteria and appointment criteria.
