ABVP released its election manifesto for the upcoming Delhi University Students’ Union polls, recounting the historical roots of the organisation as well as delineating its future course of action in a vibrant and dynamically changing society.

A 5-P comprehensive charter of demands relating to the various problems plaguing the University was put-forth :

PARISAR (Campus) – Construction of new hostels, establishment of East and West campuses, effective enforcement of Delhi Rent Control Act, 1958, free Wi-Fi service, free education for transgenders, subsidised food canteens, and better sanitation facilities constituted the primary demands under this subhead.

PATHYAKRAM (Curriculum) – Students’ representation in the DU Academic Council, remedial classes for SC, ST, OBC, and EWS students, facilitating national integration under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat program of GoI, promotion of value based learning, and various other measures aimed at augmenting employability were covered under this title.

PRAVESH (Admission) – A centralised hostel admission form, ‘one course on fee’ across different colleges, accelerated filling of all the vacant quota seats pertinent to OBC / SC / ST students, transparent process and evaluation criteria for admission under ECA category, and increased scholarships for SC / ST / PH students formed the principal demands. 10,000 social entrepreneurship opportunities have been promised by ABVP upon victory in the DUSU (2019-2020) polls.

PAREEKSHA (Examination) – Reasonably sufficient time for semester-related preparations, supplementary examination for final-year students cutting across all the undergraduate and postgraduate courses, extra examination writing time for specially-abled students, and a one-time special occasion, allowing all the students of the University to complete their respective degree examinations were the points underscored under this sub-heading.

PARINAM (Result) – Pre-fixed dates for the declaration of examination results, pronouncement of supplementary examination results prior to the onset of the admission process for the forthcoming academic year, and additional attempts for improving internal assessment scores were the leading demands under this title.

A number of initiatives for the welfare of female students were also proposed. Shivangi Kharwal, ABVP’s DUSU (2019-2020) candidate for the post of Joint-Secretary, said,

“A new mobile app for women’s safety in emergency situations, Mission Sahasi 2.0 to impart self-defence training to over 20,000 female students, gender-sensitisation seminars, Internal Complaints Committee elections in every college and an increased police presence outside girls’ hostels would be some of the novel initiatives constituting the forthcoming DUSU’s actionable agenda. ABVP believes in absolute gender-equality and ABVP-led DUSU will do everything in its power to make campuses safer for female students”.
