The vice president of DUSU, Shakti Singh of ABVP has taken charge as the president of DUSU.
According to Lyngdoh Committee guidelines, “In the event of the office of any major post of office bearer falling vacant within two months of elections, re-elections should be conducted; otherwise, the president will be promoted to the post of president.”
The DUSU polls are subject to these guidelines and are bound to follow the procedure stated.
The High Court of Delhi has already rejected Sunny Chillar’s plea challenging the election of Ankiv Baisoya.
Justifying Shakti Singh’s take over, a member of ABVP said, “The matter is not pending in the High Court The court has said there will be no fresh polls which mean that Shakti Singh will be president now.
He entered the office on Tuesday and took over as president.”
The NSUI has alleged Shakti Singh of forcing his way into the office with his men and breaking open the lock.
According to NSUI, Shakti Singh and his men manhandled the security staff and even abused the varsity staff that intervened.
Condemning the act, NSUI said,” How can he assume the office when the matter is still sub-judice?
Has the University received any court order? The act by Singh is sheer contempt of court.”
