Things to keep in mind when you vote for the student union elections

5 min

Student union elections is a high time in DU and at that point of time Candidates and their Supporters become crazy to do something unpredictable, since every representative just want to win anyhow. From the first week of September their campaigning start and during an election campaign the air is full of speeches and vice versa.

Now, it becomes essential to choose the right candidate for your precious vote because an election is an opportunity for a new consensus.

And, if you think that one vote cannot make a difference then it is to remember that to the world you may be one person, but to the right person you are the world. Since it might be possible that deserving candidate lose but your vote will make him stand strong against the despicable winner.

Well, here are a few points that need to be considered when you vote for the student union elections –

  • First of all, look at the credentials of candidates instead of their BMW, Audi, White Shirts with shining glasses on their faces. All these lavish stuff are only for show-off because guys who live in AC can’t understand the pain of youths travelling via orange or green bus.

  • Choose a candidate who will ask your problems before preparing manifesto because a candidate who considers everyone’s point of view, can serve you well rather than just announcing what all he is going to do.
  • Moreover, every winner is going to get only a fixed amount from DU for development but they promise to do innumerable things which cannot be possible with the assigned budget. And, it is obvious that a fabulist cannot become a good leader. Therefore, before getting influenced by such persons do proper research that their promises are attainable or not.
  • You will find that various representatives will distribute chocolates, pens, PVR tickets, pizza and other things. Now, it is up to you to make a rational decision because how can you expect honesty from a person who is indulged in malpractices even before coming into power.
  • Most importantly, some leaders come up with the agenda of the clean environment while throwing pamphlets in the classes, campus, canteens or even roads. However, as a leader, they should lead by example instead they himself are making a dirty environment. So, take care that your vote will not go to such parties.
  • Furthermore, many parties do not change their manifestos year after year and it is extremely disheartening that how come they make fake promises even if they didn’t fulfil their responsibility previous year. Well, as a 18 plus guy you should look at their earlier year promises and then decide that how can you trust such candidates.
  • Last but not least, go for a person not for a party since honour is not the exclusive property of any political party.
