Delhi University UG Admissions, 2019: A Rise of Nearly 10% in PwD Category Registrations

Delhi University UG Admissions, 2019: A Rise of Nearly 10% in PwD Category Registrations

Delhi University official, on Sunday, said this year, Delhi University, saw an increase of nearly 10 per cent, in the registrations made under the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) Category.

The total number of application received on the University Admission Portal, under this category, this year is 1,665. The applicants include an acid attack victim and leprosy-cured persons. There are twenty-one conditions that are considered under this category.

Bipin Tiwary, a member of Equal Opportunity Cell of the University, said,

“There has been an increase in the number of applicants we have been receiving every year. This year, there has been an increase of almost 10 per cent from last year. This increase shows that the varsity is welcoming persons with disabilities.”

The University has received applications from people under this category, including, an acid attack victim, two from those who have been cured of leprosy and five from those affected with dwarfism.

A total of 480 applications have been received under the category of locomotor disability, receiving a maximum number of applications under PwD, followed by 366 applications received by visually challenged aspirants and 226 from those low vision. per cent seats are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities.

PwD applicants shall be given a relaxation in the course-specific eligibility in the qualifying examination and in the admission entrance test to the extent of five per cent, till seats are filled, according to the eligibility criterion of the university.
