Comic Book to keep Children Safe- Know Your Rights- Launch Event by Our Voix Ngo

In our country where violence against children is increasing day by day. More than 53% of children are a victim of sexual abuse as per the available data, the need of the hour is to spread awareness and prevent abuse. Ngo Our Voix launched a Comic Book, which explains about abuse and the rights of children.

The founder of the organization Megha Bhatia, LLM University College London and the author of the book emphasized that the book will help children to know about their rights available at national and international instruments. It would be rightfully said that this book is a combination of fun and learning undertaken with informed social responsibility and sensitivity. The Book aims at empowering young children with the knowledge of their own rights and also, through a comic format, making it more interesting and relatable for our young minds. The book introduces Super Buddies, super heroes, who teach children various concepts, provisions, and rights – ranging across the POCSO Act, Indian Constitution and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Book cover topics such as touch abuse, non- touch abuse, right against exploitation, right to equality, right to play, corporal punishment, bullying, right to information, etc. This 10 August 2019, Our Voix, a youth lead organization working on the prevention of child sexual abuse, launched a comic book on child rights with Super Buddy.

At Know Your Rights- Book Launch Event, people were sensitized through an array of events and activities – a panel discussion about child safety, the comic book launch and the euphoric music to teach rights in a creative way. The event consisted of a three-panel discussion of Children, Caregivers, and stakeholders.

The panelists were members of Delhi Commission for Protection of child rights, Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee, Psychologist, Children, Civil Society Organisations, etc. The event was attended by counselors and teachers of private schools and MCD Schools.

The author of the book and the founder of Our Voix, Miss Megha Bhatia, “ With increasing cases of sexual abuse, harassment, bullying, it is crucial that children know how to be safe. Through this book, Children will learn how to be safe with Super Buddies. Super Buddies will be a future role model for children.”

Kashish, student of 10th class Bal Bharati Public School, a Child Right Activist “Parents should listen to us, we are always raising our voice. Through this platform, I came to know that children have rights too. Before this, I had neither heard at school nor at home that we as children have rights ”.

Anindita Anand, Child Psychologist “There is a crucial need that children receive information about their bodies, rights and through the right source”. Jyoti Ma’am, member of DCPCR, there is a need to talk about this issue and work on prevention of abuse. Meenu Mehta, Chairperson of CWC, shared about the role of Child Welfare Committee in ensuring children are protected. All the stakeholder emphasizes on the efforts being done by their part to ensure a safe childhood.

The organization will be providing these books to different schools and other organizations too. They aim to ensure that the book reaches out to all the children. With increasing cases of violence against children day by day, this book will be a step forward to ensure children are safe
