DU Vice Chancellor met the office bearers of Delhi University Student’s Union for the first time in last eight months. The delegation led by ABVP has put forward the demands of the DU students.
Yesterday , a delegation of ABVP and DUSU met DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Tyagi . This is the first time since the students union’s election that the VC has met the DUSU President Shakti Singh and DUSU Joint Secretary Jyoti Chaudhary.
The delegation has put forward 10 important demands. Starting supplementary examination, building new hostels, Tectile pathway facilities for the differently abled students, A 24 x 7 library, creating new reading halls, building new hostels, increasing dietary allowance for sports students, the demand for the availability of a gynecologist and counsellor in every college, one course one fee for post graduate students, a centralized and transparent hostel admission process, Vice Chancellor Scholarship for differently abled students, DUSU to be part of Academic and Executive Council of the University” are the demands that were kept before DU Vice Chancellor.
DUSU President Shakti Singh said, “ Earlier also, a delegation also met Registrar, Proctor and other University officials in view of these demands, the university officials accepted few of our demands then but they were never implemented. Therefore, If the same behavior is repeated and DU Vice chancellor does not fulfill these promises, then DUSU will be forced to call a large scale student movement in the University.”
ABVP’s Delhi state Secretary Sidharth Yadav said, “We have been consistently trying to raise needs and demands of the students before the University administration and finally a constructive meeting of 4 hours happened with VC and other officials. They have assured us on most issues and 4 of them would be immediately implemented. We welcome the move by the administration and would constantly keep a followup for the same. We have warned for a larger protest if promises are not kept. ABVP is resolute to serve students of DU and fight for their rights.”
The vice Chancellor of Delhi University in meeting with ABVP delegation has assured to act as soon as possible on demands like timely result declaration of re-evaluation and re-checking, building new reading halls, installation of Air conditioners, starting a centralised hostel admission process and formation of a committee that looks into the probable options of conducting Supplementary examination.
